JLG is introducing new high-capacity versions of its telescopic boom lifts. The Hi-Capacity HC3 family’s 400 Series, 600 Series, and 800 Series have enhanced lift capacity in the same footprint as standard JLG models, albeit with greater operating weight.

“Customer input, coupled with the increasing popularity of higher-capacity boom lifts, drove the expansion of our HC3 product offering, which now includes 80-foot platform height models,” says JLG’s director of marketing and product management for boom lifts, Nate Hoover. “All Hi-Capacity HC3 model boom lifts have been engineered to provide increased capabilities and boost productivity on the jobsite.”

    Heights & Capacities

The first two digits of the HC3 lineup’s model numbers indicate their platform height in feet, such as a 40-foot (12.2-meter) height for the 400S HC3 and a 66-foot (20-meter) height for the 660SJ HC3. The 86-ft (26.2-m) 860SJ HC3 has the highest platform reach in the product family.

HC3 units have different lifting capabilities based upon the length of the boom extension and the amount of offset in the articulated members, as applicable. JLG describes these as capacity zones. At shorter boom lengths, an HC3 lift has an unrestricted capacity of 750 or 1,000 pounds (340 or 454 kilograms), depending on the model. Extending the platform past a certain point requires dropping down to a restricted capacity of 500 or 660 lbs (227 or 300 kg). A sophisticated load-sensing system automatically limits operation when the platform is overloaded.

    Other Features

The HC3 family uses a zero-calibration system that requires no external weights for setup. The lifts’ platform and ground console LED displays automatically adjust their brightness levels to the ambient light conditions. Finally, a chassis tilt alarm tells the operator when the surface has too much slope for safe operation.

    Coming Soon

The Hi-Capacity HC3 models currently available include the 400S, 460SJ, 600S, 660SJ, and 860SJ. JLG says that the 450AJ, 600AJ, 800AJ, and 800S HC3 lifts will appear on the market in the coming months.
