All-New Volvo CE EW200E Material Handler & Revised EW240E Designed To Tackle Waste & Recycling Applications
Although the all-new EW200E material handler and updated EW240E share many components with other Volvo wheel excavators, Volvo Construction Equipment says it equipped these material handlers with application-specific features to increase productivity, uptime, and operator comfort.
“A dedicated material handler is purpose-built for these applications, compared with modifying an excavator to fit into these segments,” says Volvo CE Excavators Product Manager Matthew McLean. “Now we’ve added a second machine to our lineup with the EW200E MH, which is perfect for light and medium material handling like plastic, household waste, and scrap.”
The New EW200E
The EW200E material handler features three boom and arm configurations, and the straight boom can be fitted with either a 13-foot (3.96-meter) gooseneck arm or an 11-foot, 6-inch (3.5-m) sorting arm, giving the EW200E a max reach of 33 feet (10 m) and a max lifting capacity of 25,600 pounds (11,611 kilograms). Volvo CE powers the EW200E with its D6J 6-liter Tier 4 final engine that generates 173 horsepower (129 kilowatts).
EW240E Updates
First introduced in 2018, Volvo CE expands on the EW240E’s range of medium-duty applications with a 23-ft, 9-in. (7.2-m) straight boom—a more than 2-ft increase over the first model. And when combined with the existing 16-ft, 5-in (5-m) gooseneck arm, the machine’s total reach now exceeds 39 ft (11.9 m).
Application-Specific Features
On both models, Volvo CE designed the material handlers so that the outriggers, blade, and cab-raising functions can be completed without removing your hands from the in-cab joystick controls. The cabs raise more than 16 ft (4.8 m) from the ground for a better view. Volvo CE also factory-installs auxiliary circuits to enable sorting grabs and orange-peel grapples.
