Brazilian cargo handling company Darcy Pacheco Soluções de Peso has added another Liebherr LTM 1500-8.1 all-terrain crane to its fleet. The venerable model has impressed the firm with its reliability and Liebherr’s aftersales service in the country.

“We are very happy with our LTM 1500-8.1 cranes,” says Maintenance Director Eduardo Silva. “As we are receiving increasing demand for this lifting capacity class, we made enquiries about another 600-ton (500-metric-ton) model. When it came to choosing the machine, in addition to capacity, the delivery time that Liebherr was able to offer was another positive.”

    Ready To Work

Darcy Pacheco took possession of its newest LTM 1500-8.1 last November. The company put it to work at a major construction site where a paper factory is undergoing an expansion. Later, the new Liebherr will assemble wind turbines and participate in infrastructure projects.

“We rely on Liebherr as its machines have excellent quality,” says Silva. “In addition, Liebherr’s after-sales service here in Brazil is extraordinarily good.”

Darcy Pacheco and its two sister companies employ more than 600 workers. Its fleet includes telescopic mobile cranes with lifting capacities of up to 600 t (500 mt) and crawler cranes that can hoist up to 825 t (750 mt). The company has also ordered a 900-t (800-mt) Liebherr LTM 1750-9.1 to be delivered this year.

    The Liebherr LTM 1500-8.1

Liebherr says that its eight-axle LTM 1500-8.1 mobile crane can hoist heavy loads quickly on industrial sites, infrastructure projects, wind power installations, and loading applications. The crane offers two telescopic boom options with maximum lengths of 276 feet (84 meters) or 164 ft (50 m). The seven-section and four-section main boom options use the Telematik automated telescoping system.

Using a lattice luffing jib, the self-leveling crane can reach a maximum hoist height of 465 ft (142 m) and a max radius of 350 ft (108 m), at which it can lift 4 t (3.6 mt). A guying system is also available. The LTM 1500-8.1’s modular counterweight frame is compact and mounts quickly, according to the manufacturer. The operator controls the crane using Liebherr’s LICCON computer system.

The LTM 1500-8.1 can travel at up to 50 mph (80 km/h) thanks to its carrier’s 680-horsepower (500-kilowatt), eight-cylinder diesel engine. The crane drive relies on a 326-HP (240-kW), six-cylinder turbodiesel.
