Indiana’s F.A. Wilhelm Purchases Pair Of Grove GRT655L Rough-Terrain Cranes

Indianapolis-based general contractor F.A. Wilhelm assumed ownership of two 55-ton (51-metric ton) Grove GRT655L rough-terrain cranes late last month. The two Groves will be assigned to fast-track projects in Indiana and its surrounding states.

Quality & Durability

“Our team of operators is excited to have the cranes in our fleet,” says Wilhelm vice president of corporate marketing, April Parsley, who cites the durability and overall quality for which Grove is known. “Our projects are getting larger and more complex, and having our own cranes gives us the flexibility and nimbleness we need.”

Local Manitowoc dealer Walter Payton Power Equipment supplied Wilhelm with the new Grove cranes. “The GRT655Ls should become essential tools for Wilhelm’s lifting needs,” says WPPE Regional Manager Dick Feldman. “The cranes’ versatility and ample capacity should take their projects to the next level.”

A Look At The Grove GRT655L

The GRT655L is the long-reach edition of Grove’s GRT655 model. Its five-section, full-power boom telescopes from 35.3 to 141.2 feet (10.8 to 43 meters) in length. An optional 26- to 44.9-ft (7.9- to 13.7-m), offsettable, telescoping boom extension allows it to achieve a maximum reach of 196 ft (59.7 m).

Parent company Manitowoc provides the GRT655L’s Crane Control System (CCS). The operator can adjust the response curves and function speeds of the crane’s dual- or single-axis controls. The machine is rated at a permissible line pull of 12,240 pounds (5,552 kilograms) and a single line speed of up to 487 feet per minute (148 meters per minute).

Other key features of the GRT655L include a 20-degree tilting cab, hydraulic disc brakes on all wheels, load-sensing hydraulics, inverted outrigger jacks, and an ECO mode to reduce fuel consumption. Its engine is a Cummins QSB 6.7-liter diesel available with either Tier 4 Final or Tier 3 emissions standards compliance. The crane’s operating weight is approximately 38 tons (34.6 metric tons).
