Mecalac has added the all-new TLB880 model to its lineup of loader backhoes. Now available through approved dealers, the TLB880 features a heavy-duty design, comes with a choice of two transmissions, and boasts a closed-center hydraulics system. The loader is packed with ergonomic controls and other features that make it well-suited for small companies and rental fleets and taking on civil engineering, highway maintenance, utility, agriculture, and other jobs. The TLB880 joins the TLB870, TLB890, and TLB990 in Mecalac’s stable of sideshift loader backhoes. The manufacturer also produces center-mount models.

    Digging Into The TLB880

The TLB880’s four-cylinder Perkins 904 turbocharged diesel engine can generate 100 horsepower (74.5 kilowatts) at 2,200 rpm and 317 pounds-foot (430 newton-meters) of torque at 1,500 rpm. Owners can choose between a four-speed synchro shuttle transmission or servo power synchro powershift gearbox, with road speeds reaching 24 mph (40 km/h). Dig depth is 14.4 feet (4.4 meters) with standard equipment and 18.7 ft (5.7 m) with optional deep dig dipper. Horizontal reach is 18.8 ft (5.73 m) or 23 ft (7 m) with the extension. Dipper tear-out force is 9,442 pounds-force (42 kilonewtons), and bucket tear-out force is 15,511.8 lbf (69 kN).

Mecalac’s all-new TLB880 offers buyers a choice of a four-speed synchro shuttle transmission or servo power powershift gearbox. The loader also makes an optional deep dig dipper extension available to support a potential 18.7-foot dig depth. (Photo courtesy of Mecalac.)

    Safety First

Mecalac says the TLB880’s close-center hydraulics system, which delivers a flow rate of 37.8 gallons per minute (143 liters per minute), ensures fast cycle times and precise actuation. Where safety is concerned, meanwhile, the loader backhoe’s cab meets industry ROPS (rollover protective system) and FOPS (falling object protective system) standards, includes front and rear LED work lights and a mechanical transport lock, and supports an optional reverse warning system. Maintenance is made easier by the machine’s fully tilting engine hood.
