Komatsu’s PC88MR-11 is a new 9.5-ton class compact midi-excavator with a short tail swing for space-restricted job sites. The design of its swing boom allows the operator to dig parallel to obstacles, buildings, or barriers, or in a single lane of traffic. The manufacturer says the PC88MR-11 is a great choice for work on bridges, underground utilities, and urban construction.

    Faster Cycles, Better Fuel Economy

The PC88MR-11 is equipped with Komatsu’s HydrauMind (Hydraulic Mechanical Intelligence New Design) closed-center hydraulics system, which has load-sensing and pressure-compensated valves. This system speeds up the excavator’s swing speed, boom-up motion, and arm speed. The machine comes standard with high-flow auxiliary hydraulics controlled by proportional joysticks. The efficiency of the system, combined with a mechanically driven fan with a viscous clutch, serve to lower the excavator’s fuel usage by up to 13%.

    Visibility & Comfort

Inside the climate-controlled cab of the PC88MR-11 is an air suspension seat, a monitor for the rearview camera, and a Bluetooth-enabled radio. The sliding cab door makes entries and exits easier in cramped quarters. The excavator features bright LED lights for work after dark.

    Digging & Backfilling

The PC88MR-11 has a bucket capacity of 0.12 to 0.26 cubic yards (0.09 to 0.20 cubic meters) and a maximum digging depth of 15 feet (4.5 meters). Komatsu says Its standard grading blade features a new moldboard profile for more efficient backfilling, leveling, and light grading.

The excavator’s 2.45-liter, three-cylinder diesel engine produces 68 horsepower (50.7 kilowatts). The Komatsu-made motor meets Tier 4 Final emissions standards without the need for a diesel particulate filter (DPF). The engine is B20 biodiesel compatible, and it supports six working modes, ranging from maximum power to maximum economy.

A hydrostatic drive propels the crawler excavator at up to 3.1 mph (5 km/h) on 18-in. (457-mm)-wide triple grouser shoe tracks. Other types and widths of tracks are available. The PC88MR-11 has an operating weight of 18,739 to 19,224 pounds (8.5 to 8.75 metric tons), depending upon its configuration.
