Steil Group Adds Liebherr LTM 1120-4.1 Mobile Crane To Fleet Based On Impressive Performance
When Liebherr launched the LTM 1120-4.1 last year, the company touted the mobile crane with the slogan “There’s nothing more on 4!” The catchy line refers to Liebherr’s claim that the LTM 1120-4.1 has the longest telescopic boom and provides the most power of any crane on four axles. And for Steil Kranarbeiten GmbH & Co. KG, it was that long telescopic boom (217 feet; 66 meters) and lift capacity (135 tons; 120 metric tons) that indeed attracted management.
“The compact dimensions of the crane relative to its high lifting capacity were impressive, then there is the boom length and the VarioBase variable support base,” says owner Birgit Steil. “The crane also benefits from being able to obtain permanent road permits because it travels at a gross weight of just 48 t.”
Performs Like A Five-Axle
With its telescoping boom fully extended, the Liebherr LTM 1120 4.1 can still lift nearly 10t (9 mt). A lattice boom extension and a double folding jib can be added for an ultimate hook height of 308 ft (94 m) and a radius of up to 210 ft (64 m). The jib is hydraulically adjustable to a 40-degree offset. Other options include a 6.6-ft (2-m) erection jib and a runner that can swing to the side. The LTM 1120-4.1 is powered by a single 449-horsepower (330-kilowatt) Stage V Liebherr six-cylinder diesel and a ZF-TraXon gearbox.
Jobsite Versatility
Part of the LTM 1120 4.1’s versatility stems from its distributed ballast, which is adjustable in a number of ways. The VarioBallast system allows the ballast radius to be mechanically altered from 12.6 to 15.6 ft (3.83 to 4.77 m) or vice versa, which is helpful when working in confined jobsites. VarioBallast can also boost lifting performance with fewer counterweights, reducing transport requirements. The ballast can be set up for uniform axle loads of 13.2, 14.9, 16.5, or 18.2 t (12, 13.5, 14.5, or 16.5 mt) as needed to meet local regulations.
