Ditch Witch Says New AT32 All-Terrain Directional Drill Packs Greater Power, Easier Operation
Ditch Witch has announced its new AT32 all-terrain horizontal directional drill, which is designed to help utility contractors bore more productively through hard rock. The mid-sized model replaces the manufacturer’s AT30 with more power and easier operation.
“The AT32 is in a class of its own,” says Ditch Witch HDD Product Marketing Manager Jeff Davis. “It fills a gap in the mid-size HDD market, bringing full-size power to the jobsite without the full-size footprint. The result is a more accessible, compact, and versatile machine that provides boosted productivity on a variety of rural and urban jobsites.”
Stronger Performance
The Ditch Witch AT32 provides up to 4,200 pounds-foot (5,694 newton-meters) of outer rotational torque, a 29% increase over the AT30, and 1,200 lbf-ft (1,627 N-m) of inner rotational torque, which is a 50% improvement. The drill also delivers 32,000 pounds-force (142 kiloNewtons) of thrust and pullback, and it has a maximum entry angle of 28 degrees.
Ditch Witch also upgraded the AT32’s drilling fluid system to support longer bores with larger diameters. It has a maximum pressure of 1,000 pounds per square inch (69 bar) and a 40% higher maximum flow rate of 70 gallons per minute (265 liters per minute).
The AT32 can carry up to 450 feet (137 meters) of all-terrain drill pipe—a 30% increase over the AT30—or 600 ft (183 m) of dirt pipe. Its new rod-loading system allows operators to manually insert additional pipe when the supply runs low. The machine supports Power Pipe HD, All Terrain Pipe, and Ditch Witch Forged HDX drill pipe.
A Compact Footprint
The AT32 measures 89 inches (2.26 m) wide, 254.5 in. (6.46 m) in overall length, and 97 in. (2.46 m) in transport height. Including its cab, it weighs 19,220 pounds (8,718 kilograms).
The drill’s 155-horsepower (115-kW), 4.5-L, four-cylinder Cummins diesel engine complies with EPA Tier 4 and EU Stage V emissions standards. It can also propel the tracked drill at up to 2.8 mph (4.5 km/h).
Finally, the AT32 supports telematics through Ditch Witch’s Orange Intel Fleet Management System.
Coming Attractions
In the next few months, Ditch Witch plans to debut its new JT32 drill for softer soils. The JT32 will replace the JT30 model with additional power and user comfort features.
