John Deere Updates 950K & 1050K Crawler Dozers For Ride Quality, Productivity & Durability
Deere & Company has been listening to what its customers have to say about its largest crawler dozers, the 950K and 1050K. As a result, the manufacturer now offers standard and optional features to smooth out the ride, do more work, and improve uptime and durability.
“Our time spent on customer sites has allowed us to confidently design an undercarriage for the 1050K that drastically improves operability and productivity on rough terrain,” says John Deere Solutions Marketing Manager Matt Goedert. “With the updates to the 950K and 1050K machines, such as the Extended Life undercarriage life option, we’re delivering increased machine uptime while also significantly enhancing the operator experience.”
Shared Improvements
The optional new Extended Life undercarriage for the 950K and 1050K features SC-2-coated track chain bushings, a company exclusive. The hard, proprietary coating makes the bushings last up to twice as long as standard bearings. The Extended Life option has been successful on Deere’s smaller dozers, the company says.
Both big dozers also come with new exterior hoses that stay more flexible in cold weather and have a longer service life in freezing environments.
Model-Specific Upgrades
In order to improve the 1050K’s ride quality and reduce operator fatigue, Deere has furnished the crawler with a new suspended double-bogie undercarriage track frame. The second layer of bogies, along with new isolators and enhanced geometry, also serves to increase the undercarriage’s durability.
The 1050K’s Semi-U blade has been updated as well. The Semi-U has a new blade profile with higher capacity and better roll performance, Deere says. In addition, cast end bits now come standard with the blade. As a result of the new enhancements, the Semi-U blade propels more dirt on each pass and experiences less material plugging.
Deere now offers the 950K with a factory stockpiling configuration for wood chip and coal work. The package has new sheet metal guards to keep material from spilling over the top of the blade and into the dozer’s grille and hood vents. The stockpiling configuration also includes a debris-tolerant cooling system.
Big Deeres
The Deere 950K is a 65,300- to 73,700-pound (29.6- to 33.4-metric-ton) dozer with 265 to 280 horsepower (198 to 209 kilowatts). It puts 126.5 to 135.1 inches (3.2 to 3.4 meters) of track on the ground.
Its big brother, the 1050K, is a 350-HP (261-kW) machine with a 134.6-in (3.4-m) footprint. At 95,400 to 96,100 lbs (43.3 to 43.6 metric tons), it’s the heaviest crawler dozer Deere currently produces.
