When positioning a 155-foot (47.2-meter), 60,000-pound (27,215-kilogram) refurbished water bridge, Anglemyer Crane Rental of Azusa, California, selected Link-Belt’s 110-ton (100-metric-ton) HTC-86110 hydraulic truck crane and 275-t (250-mt) ATC-3275 all-terrain crane to perform a tandem lift. The water bridge is designed to circulate water in a sediment pond for the industrial production of sand, and the location posed some challenges.

“It was a little bit of a unique setup,” says crane operator Mike Norris, who ran the HTC-86110. “A temporary ramp was built for us to get the HTC-86110 down into the pond. Then we were set up along with the ATC-3275 so we could pick the bridge and set it into place.”

Positioning the bridge required the cranes to provide the necessary reach from each location. “The ATC-3275 had to pick about 15 ft (4.5 m) further than the HTC-86110, so we had it on higher ground on the bank,” Norris says. Anglemyer Crane Rental equipped the HTC-86110 with its full 48,600-lb (22,000-kg) counterweight to handle its end of the bridge. “We had close to 36,000 lbs and lifted and placed on the center rotating joint,” says Norris.

    Crane Specs

The Link-Belt ATC-3210 has a seven-section boom that extends from 43.7 to 223 ft (13.3 to 68 m). Maximum tip height with optional lattice extensions is 350 ft (106.8 m). The manually and hydraulically offsettable fly options can be angled from 2 to 45 degrees. Link-Belt’s HTC-86110 hydraulic truck crane features a main boom that extends from 38.3 to 164 ft (11.7 to 50 m) with a tip height is 173 ft (52.7 m). Fly extensions are available to increase the maximum tip height to 262 ft (80 m).
