Newly Updated Caterpillar 815 Soil Compactor Increases Productivity, Lowers Maintenance
Caterpillar recently announced upgrades to its 815 Soil Compactor to increase productivity and efficiency. The 815 features a new design with revised service groupings to reduce maintenance costs, lower overall transport height, and elevate comfort in the cab.
Built For Fast, Quality Work
Designed for high-speed, high-quality soil compaction, the 815 has four 39-inch (991-millimeter)-wide steel drums with a chevron pattern on the tamping tips for high ground pressure and compaction, superior traction, and a smooth ride. The symmetrical tip pattern provides equal compaction effort whether in forward or reverse and the tamper design reduces material fluffing. Adjustable cleaner bars eliminate material carryover in all rolling directions.
The soil compactor is powered by the Cat C7.1 engine with two engine package options to help owners meet local market emissions standards: U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final/EU Stage V and Tier 3/Stage IIIA equivalent. The machine also has automatic engine and electric system shutdown to prevent unnecessary idling and reduce fuel consumption. The 815 delivers improved shifting and greater momentum on grades through the Advanced Productivity Electronic Control System.
New Technology
Cat Compact GPS mapping is offered from the factory to provide visibility and cut and fill data, allowing operators to meet compaction targets quickly and uniformly. Cat Compaction Control with Machine Drive Power, an energy-based measurement system that correlates compaction with rolling resistance to indicate soil stiffness, allows operators to monitor compaction progress. The Vital Information Management System collects real-time machine data and displays it on the in-cab 3G touchscreen display through Cat Link.
New Cab Design
The redesigned cab uses the Cat STIC system, which combines steering, gear selection, and other functions in a single lever, to reduce operator fatigue. The 815 only requires small side-to-side inputs to steer and gear changes are fingertip controlled. The Premium Plus seat has a leather finish, forced air heating and cooling, two-way thigh adjustment, power lumbar and back bolster, and a flip-up armrest.
