The harsh Canadian winter was rough on The Hanger Flight Museum in Calgary, Alberta, whose mission is to preserve artifacts that tell the story of the evolution of flight. As a result, both of the museum’s hangar buildings need work, including a replacement cover for the tent hangar facility. Renovators brought in an SJ63 AJ articulating boom lift and other Skyjack lifts, rented from Cooper Equipment Rentals in Calgary, to repair the damage and perform other needed updates.

“Our booms are on rent to the museum for two weeks and include two SJ63 AJs, an SJ46 AJ, and an SJ45T,” says Clint Austin, rental representative at Cooper Equipment Rentals. “They’re using the COVID shutdown period as a time to not only replace the damage done this winter, but other necessary renovations to the museum.”

    Working Fast With Speedyreach

The crew working on the museum is using Skyjack equipment to work as quickly and efficiently as possible. Skyjack’s SJ63 AJ has increased on-site efficiency, thanks to its Speedyreach articulated boom functionality. The Speedyreach open-center knuckle riser design lets operators lower the fly boom to ground level to restock needed materials and return to full height without lowering the riser section.

SJ63 AJ Provides Reach & Working Height

The SJ63 AJ brings a 27.6-foot (8.4-meter) reach and a 500-pound (227-kilogram) lift capacity to the table. Work height tops out at 69.7 ft (21.2 m), while the SJ63 AJ’s platform height reaches 63.59 ft (19.4 m). The articulated boom lift’s up-and-over capabilities provide the necessary access to work on the structural hanger components and perform critical repair work.
