Mecalac is expanding its MDX site dumper family with the 3.5MDX, a 3.85-ton (3.5-metric-ton) cabbed dumper that’s both compact and highly maneuverable. The compact design makes the 3.5MDX an ideal candidate to transport big payloads in confined spaces. And with hydrostatic four-wheel drive with options for high and low range gearing, the 3.5MDX is right at home in challenging jobsite conditions and rough terrain. Mecalac offers the new 3.5MDX in either a swivel tip skip featuring 180-degree rotation or a front tip skip.

    When Being Compact Is Critical

The 3.5MDX is 9 feet, 2 inches (2.8 meters) tall and 6 ft (1.8 m) wide, dimensions that allow the machine operate in areas where other dumpers might not have room to maneuver. The cabbed dumper’s total operating weight is 6,426 pounds (2,915 kilograms), and it offers a maximum (heaped) skip capacity of 2.46 cubic yards (1.88 cubic meters) to move large loads. Similar to other MDX dumpers, such as the 6.6-t (6-mt) 6MDX and the 9.9-t (9-mt) 9MDX, Mecalac equips its fully enclosed MDX cab with a curved windshield for better visibility; the isolated cabin also minimizes noise. 3.5MDX models with Mecalac’s Power Swivel technology allow the load to be rotated up to 180 degrees before tipping for more precise load placement.

    Safety Tested

The MDX cab is designed to provide a high level of operator protection. The cab is ROPS- and FOPS-certified and is built to withstand impacts while loading the dumper’s skip. Additional safety features on the 3.5MDX include digital sensors that can alert the operator if the handbrake is on or when fuel loss occurs, and an automatic idle shut-off feature helps prevent inadvertent movement. Front and rear LED work lights are standard to illuminate work areas, and the dumper’s Stop/Start Control makes it easy for operators to quickly turn off the dumper while it’s being loaded.
