Bobcat’s latest addition to its R2 Series of excavators is the 19,600-pound (8,890-kilogram) E88 compact model with a conventional tail swing. The 65.4-horsepower (48.8-kilowatt) machine features an increased operating weight and better over-the-side digging, slewing, and lifting performance than its forerunner.

The E88 is poised to help customers tackle the toughest jobs in a compact product.”
Making Digging Easier
The Bobcat E88’s new dual-flanged rollers place more rubber track on the ground, improving stability while increasing uptime and track life. An optional counterweight can raise the excavator’s lifting, digging, and slewing power even more.
The E88 features a maximum digging depth of 15.2 feet (4.6 meters) and a bucket digging force of 15,130 pound-force feet (20,513 newton-meters). Its exclusive depth-checking system promotes accurate grading and prevents over-digging and under-digging. The E88 has a maximum reach at ground level of 23.7 ft (7.2 m).
New low-effort joysticks and a new hydraulic control valve combine to boost the machine’s controllability and enhance its metering and movement. An optional clamp diverter valve improves the functionality of the excavator’s hydraulic clamp. The machine’s 25.1-gallons-per-minute (95-liters-per-minute) auxiliary hydraulics are mounted on the arm so they’re easier to reach and connect.
Blades
Bobcat gives the E88 an integrated lift eye for moving and placing weighty objects. Meanwhile, the E88’s blade float feature maintains a modicum of down-force on the blade to simplify grading and leveling operations with minimal driver input.
An optional angle blade provides speedy backfilling and grading. The blade can be angled 25 degrees to the left or right, so as to form windrows on only one side of the machine. The blade can also rest on the ground to stabilize the machine, or sweep material into the bucket in a dustpan motion.
Simplicity
The Bobcat E88 has a redesigned diesel engine with simpler maintenance requirements. The motor complies with Tier 4 emissions standards without the need for a diesel particulate filter (DPF) or selective catalyst reduction (SCR). Its new, more efficient cooling system is easier to clean out, according to the manufacturer.
The E88 offers two-speed travel with automatic shifting. The excavator has a width of just 86.6 inches (millimeters), and LED work lights come standard on the machine.
Operator Station
Inside the cab of the E88 is a new 5-inch (127-millimeter) standard display and a password-protected keyless start feature. The boom swing and selectable-flow auxiliary hydraulics both have fingertip controls. Under the seat is an ISO and standard control pattern selector that’s within easy reach.
Bobcat offers the E88 with an automatic climate control, a rearview camera, and a heated seat with a headrest, among other options. An available waterproof, scratch-resistant, 7-inch (178-mm) touch display can be operated with gloves on. The touchscreen allows quick navigation through detailed machine and performance data. The screen also supports Bluetooth connections to mobile devices. Using the display’s contacts feature, the operator can use this connectivity to make calls to the customer, the Bobcat dealer, and others.
