Grove has begun to deliver mobile cranes to Maxim Crane Works, which has ordered 51 units to support seven new locations the crane rental company recently opened in the U.S. The order includes three 300-ton (250-metric ton), five-axle GMK5250XL-1 all-terrain cranes.

    Versatility & Reliability

“We evaluated each category of our current rental fleet and analyzed research data and conversations with our customers to determine what cranes they would need to meet their lifting needs for the next five years,” says Maxim CEO Bryan Carlisle. “Based on the data, we felt that the combination of large RT cranes and AT cranes from Grove would enable us to maximize our uptime, increase our ‘rental readiness,’ and provide the equipment that would be most versatile throughout the entire Maxim footprint.”

Maxim’s order includes an array of high-capacity Grove rough-terrain cranes and five- and six-axle all-terrain cranes. The rental company says it selected the GRT8100, GRT8120, GRT9165, GMK5150L, and GMK6300L models for their versatility and reliability. Maxim also ordered two Manitowoc MLC650 crawler cranes to be delivered this year.

    The Grove GMK5250XL-1

Grove says that its GMK5250XL-1 crane boasts the longest boom in the five-axle category at 257.5 feet (78.5 meters) long. The Twin-Lock main boom can reach 390.4 feet (119 meters) of hook height with jib and boom inserts and a 59-foot (18-meter) swingaway with up to 50 degrees of offset.

The GMK5250L-1 comes with a Voith secondary water retarder; a wear-free Voith VIAB integrated turbo coupling/retarder clutch is available as an option. The 130,000-pound (60,000-kilogram) crane is powered by a single Mercedes diesel engine that complies with Tier 4 Final emissions standards. The crane includes Manitowoc’s CCS operating system, MAXbase variable outrigger system, Megatrak independent suspension, and all-wheel steering.
