Snorkel Expands Lithium-Ion Battery-Powered Lineup With 5 New Rough-Terrain Scissor Lifts

    Posted On: July 16, 2021

The new Snorkel S2755RTE rough-terrain electric scissor lift is narrow enough at just 4.8 feet wide to work in jobsite areas where space is at a premium and has a lift capacity of 660 pounds at its max working height of 33 feet, 1 inch. (Photo courtesy of Snorkel.)

Five new Snorkel compact rough-terrain scissor lifts are now in production and available for delivery worldwide, more than doubling Snorkel’s total lineup of lithium-ion battery-powered machines. The new scissor lifts are designed to compete directly with comparably sized diesel-powered models, with four-wheel drive, long-lasting battery packs, and high-torque hydraulic drive systems.

    Model Specs

All five lifts are part of Snorkel’s RTE rough-terrain electric line. The S2255RTE and S2755RTE are narrow models, both measuring 4.8 feet (1.4 meters) wide. The S2770RTE, S3370RTE, and S3970RTE are standard-width units, all 5.8 ft (1.8 m) wide. Looking across the entire line, the new lifts have working heights ranging from 27.8 ft (8.5 m) to 45 ft (13.7 m) and maximum platform capacities from 660 pounds (299 kilograms) to 1,250 lbs (567 kg).

    Benefits In Common

All of the new scissor lifts are true zero-emission machines using AC electric motors. In addition to four-wheel drive, the lifts include oscillating axles, enabling the axles to pivot and keep all wheels on the ground even when the surface beneath is rocky or otherwise uneven. Each of the lifts has 35% gradeability, which falls nicely within the usual scissor lift range of 0% to 40% for strong performance on sloped surfaces.

    Battery Advantages

Each of the new lifts comes with two 5.75-kWh li-ion battery packs with an option for a third. Snorkel says the battery packs are maintenance-free and have a lifespan up to 20 times longer than standard lead acid batteries. Also unlike lead-acid batteries, the li-ion batteries can be topped off during downtime throughout a workday.

Even when the batteries don’t receive an extra daytime charge on the jobsite, they have been shown (in Snorkel’s testing) to last at least eight hours on a single charge, and up to a week per charge in some usage scenarios. In addition to handling rough terrain, the lifts (batteries included) can handle rough temperatures, as Snorkel ran successful tests for temps ranging from -13 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit (-25 to 60 degrees Celsius). Because the lifts produce no emissions, they fit well in low-emission zones and green cities.

Equally At Home On Rough Terrain & Indoors

Although the lifts were clearly built for a variety of challenging outdoor conditions, each comes with “high-grip, non-marking tires” per Snorkel, which makes them a good choice for indoor jobs as well. Snorkel also says they produce 62% less jobsite noise compared to comparable diesel models, and can therefore work inside where there are noise regulations.
