John Deere has added a new horsepower option for its midsize 853M track feller buncher and 853MH track harvester that provides a 10% boost in engine power, resulting in a maximum output of 330 horsepower (246 kilowatts). Deere says pairing the power increase with another options, the Dedicated Travel System, equips the forestry machines to deliver enhanced performance in harsh working conditions. Deere Product Market Manager Jim O’Halloran says the manufacturer knows how critically important machine performance is to its customers.

“This new horsepower option on the 853M and 853MH further enhances the functionality of the Dedicated Travel System, ensuring our machinery always surpasses expectations,” O’Halloran says. “Now, operators will have the option to further improve overall productivity and efficiency on their jobsite.”

    Bunching & Harvesting

    The 853M has a 27.9-foot (8.5-meter) maximum boom reach and a 6.4-ft (2-m) tailswing. The 853MH has a 29-ft (8.8-m) max boom reach and a 6.4- to 7.4-ft (2.25-m) tailswing.

Both come equipped with Tier 4 Final PowerTech PSS engines as well as an operator station designed with direct input from loggers. Their cabs feature a floor-to-ceiling front window, a skylight, and an optional floor window, plus fully adjustable armrests in the feller bunchers and keypads mounted on the joystick in the harvesters. In addition, Deere says its Rapid Cycle System reduces joystick control effort for all boom functions, which helps reduce operator fatigue and increases productivity.

    Have System, Will Travel

According to Deere, the Dedicated Travel System simultaneously provides focused hydraulic functionality for the track and independent hydraulic power and performance for the swing, boom, and attachments. The travel function’s hydrostatic control, Deere explains, enhances machine efficiency, particularly during heavy multifunction activity.
