Grove GMK5150L All-Terrain Crane Performs Critical Lifting Across Colombia
Central Trenec specializes in support services for the oil and gas industry in Colombia. The Bogotá-based company often uses Grove’s GMK5150L all-terrain crane to assemble and disassemble drilling rigs for the hydrocarbon sector. The crane allows Central Trenec crews to access hard-to-reach locations and typically lifts parts and structures up to 55 tons (50 metric tons). A company representative says the crane provides “optimal performance in its operation, which is what we have come to expect from all of our Grove and Manitowoc cranes in our fleet.”
On & Off Road
The GMK5150L’s ability to drive to and enter a variety of jobsites is critical for Central Trenec. Once onsite, the GMK5150L has the maneuverability to cover difficult terrain and features to optimize load capacities. The Megatrak independent suspension, for example, keeps the load level on the crane’s axles, and the MAXbase variable outrigger system lets operators use asymmetrical outrigger positions to stabilize the crane, allowing for a high degree of flexibility when establishing a lifting position. Typically, the GMK5150L is configured for lift heights between 32 and 115 feet (10 to 35 meters), and Central Trenec says the crane’s ability to quickly transition among day-to-day lifting tasks was a big selling point.
