Manitowoc To Display Enhanced Shuttlelift SCD15 Carry Deck Crane At Upcoming ARA Show
When the American Rental Association (ARA) kicks off its annual ARA Show in Las Vegas October 17th, Manitowoc will be there with its enhanced Shuttlelift SCD15 carry deck crane, which the manufacturer says has become one of the most popular cranes in the industrial crane market. The 15-ton (13.6-metric ton)-capacity SCD15 is in particularly high demand with rental house customers, says Michael Heinrich, Manitowoc vice president of sales for boom trucks and industrial cranes.
“We’ve made a number of enhancements to the crane that make it easier to use and provide more comfort for operators,” Heinrich says. “Also, the redesigned platform makes the machine lighter, which enables for greater maneuverability and easier transport.”
On Display In Vegas
The ARA Show runs through October 20 at the Las Vegas Convention Center; the show returns to the “Entertainment Capital of the World” this year for the first time since 2013. The SCD15 will be on display at Booth No. 3209. Manitowoc says the crane is also ideal for automotive and general manufacturing plants, refinery work, laydown yards, steel mills, or other applications involving mass production and continuous maintenance.
The SCD15, which has a 9-t (8.1-mt) deck carrying capacity, now comes with a number of enhancements, including a wider cab. An open cab is standard, but an optional enclosed cab with split-door design and sliding glass windows is available. A full LED lighting package is also available and provides better visibility for low-light or night work. Inside the cab there’s an easy-to-learn, full-color graphical Rated Capacity Limiter (RCL) that displays boom angle, length, and radius and rated and calculated loads.
The SCD15 Up Close
The SCD15 provides a three-section 41-foot (12.5-meter) boom, but a four-section full-power 50-ft (15.24-m) option is available. A 15-ft (4.6-m) fixed swingaway extension is also available that provides a maximum 69.5-ft (21.2-m) tip height. Operators can offset the jib extension at 0, -15, and -30 degrees with assistance from the pivoting boom nose. Manitowoc says the exclusive pivoting boom nose affords operators more clearance and better access in confined areas. Boom nose positions of 0, 40, and 80 degrees are possible. At 80 degrees, the boom nose pivots fully forward, reducing head height by more than 1 ft (0.3 m).
Other features include two-wheel (front only), four-wheel coordinated, and crab steering modes, and Cummins QSF 3.8- or 4.3-liter dual-fuel engine options. A storage tray and main storage box at the carrier’s front center can hold the downhaul ball, hook block, or rigging equipment, and another storage box is situated on the crane’s right side for smaller tools and equipment. Convenience and lighting packages and customized lift solution options are also available.
