Australia’s Stark Drilling Receives Custom-Configured Schramm T450 Series Drill Rig
Stark Drilling Managing Director Courtney Henness knew what his firm was getting with its new custom-configured Schramm T450 Series drill rig: mobility, reliability, a quality design, safety, operational functionality, and product support.
“Having previously used Schramm equipment at many drilling projects over the decades, it was a natural decision for me,” says Henness, a 30-year drilling industry veteran. “Schramm T450s are amazingly versatile, able to complete air-core and RC drilling at various depths, and have minimal environmental impact.”
Custom Paint--For A Good Cause
The Western Australia-located reverse circulation and air-core drilling specialist routinely works in some of Australia’s harshest and most remote environments. The company’s first job upon opening for business in 2017 put a Schramm T450 to work on a 65,600-foot (20,000-meter) project at Wollogorang in Australia’s Northern Territory. Stark Drilling now provides drilling solutions for customers within Australia’s exploration and mining sectors, but it still specializes in remote-location jobs. The company’s latest Schramm T450 features a custom paint job honoring Beyond Blue, an Australian mental health organization focused on providing support for anxiety, depression, and suicide.
“We really are excited with our new Schramm T450,” says Henness. “The finished product really is something to behold with the blue color scheme, which reflects our passion for the Beyond Blue Foundation and mental health awareness in an industry where there can often be a multitude of challenges faced on a daily basis.”
The T450 Series
In addition to a U.S. facility in Pennsylvania, Schramm has Australian locations in Perth and Brisbane. Founded in 1900, Schramm produces hammers and bits and other drilling equipment in addition to drill rigs, which also include offerings from the T685, FURY, TELEMAST, and EDM series. Its products are designed for use in mineral exploration, water well, geothermal, construction, gas, and grade control applications.
The T450 Series rig can be truck- or track-mounted, and Schramm offers it in 45-degree 30K lattice or 40K tube mast designs. The rig provides 30,000 pounds (13,608 kilograms) of pullback and has a diesel engine mounted on the deck to provide power to all the machine’s hydraulic and air systems. In addition to top drive rotation and efficient pipe-handling abilities, the T450 is available with heavy winches, carousels, and hands-free pipe-handling options to enhance its operation.
