New Komatsu 855-3 Forwarder Is Powerful, Maneuverable & Smart
Komatsu has unveiled its new, 15.4-ton (14-metric-ton) 855-3 forwarder that boasts powerful, nimble, and intelligent operation. The 855-3’s in-cab MaxiXT system lets operators monitor and control the machine’s engine, crane, transmission, and service ladders, as well as dial in their preferred control sensitivity and speed preferences. The cab has large windows that offer good all-around visibility and lots of storage space, and the optional Comfort Ride cab suspension will make operators even more comfortable.
Forwarder Features
Other notable features include the forwarder’s Komatsu Comfort Bogie axles, which have a high portal offset and V-shaped frames that provide high ground clearance. Komatsu also notes that companies that require ground or stump leveling on tough terrain can equip the 855-3 with an optional heavy-duty stacking blade. The stacking blade is mounted at a high departure angle for climbing obstacles so that there’s no interference between blade, battery boxes, or hood guard.
The forwarder’s 130F loader has 26.25 to 31.8 feet (8 to 10 meters) of reach and a Komatsu G28 grapple; it has a 30,865-pound (14,000-kilogram) gross load rating and generates 93,670 pounds-foot (127,000 newton-meters) of gross lifting torque and 21,168 lbf-ft (28,700 N-m) of gross slewing torque. The forwarder is equipped with a turbocharged AGCO Power AWF six-cylinder diesel engine that’s rated for 228 horsepower (170 kilowatts) and 700 lbf-ft (950 N-m) of torque. The 855-3’s tractive force is rated at 42,039 pounds-force (187 kilonewtons).
The Top Bunk
The 855-3’s bunk is available with several options, including a FlexGate that enhances visibility and can flex out of the way if struck by the crane, simplifying loading tasks and lessening the risk of damage to the machine. A FlexBunk option provides a high load capacity through the use of hydraulic height-adjustable stakes and a bunk-widening option.
The 855 also makes performing service and maintenance tasks quick and easy; it has an electrically powered engine hood and filters that are situated closely together underneath. All daily service can be carried out at ground level via the accessible service hatches and easily checkable dipsticks.
