Five Potain MCT 88 topless city cranes and two Potain MDT 189 top-slewing cranes are stationed at a new retail and leisure complex in construction near the archaeological site of Pompeii in Italy. Real estate developer Gruppo Irgenre selected the combination of Potain cranes based in part on dealer Edilcom Gru’s site plan showcasing the optimal location and configuration for each crane.

“Potain is one of the leading experts in the worldwide lifting market,” says Gruppo Irgenre CEO Corrado Negri. “Potain tower cranes are famous for their reliability, load capacity, and low maintenance, which are the reasons why, together with the reliability of our supplier Edilcom Gru, we chose this brand.”

    A Major Tourist Hub

The Maximall Pompeii complex will transform the 2,153,000-square-foot (200,000-square-metre) development into 200 shops, 25 restaurants, and a four-star hotel, among other tourist destinations. The shopping centers and business parks will be complemented by a 64,600-sq ft (6,000-sq m) outdoor amphitheater and 161,500-sq ft (15,000-sq m) public garden space. The strategically positioned Potain cranes are initially transporting the construction materials around the site, and once preparations are ready, Gruppo Irgenre will use them for work on the buildings.

    Easy Setup & Operation

Potain tower crane assembly is quick and straightforward, thanks to Potain parent company Manitowoc’s crane control system (CCS), a feature found on all seven of the cranes on site. The Potain cranes also take advantage of Manitowoc’s Top-Tracing III technologies to avoid collisions in overlapping coverage areas. The two MDT 189 top-slewing cranes feature a maximum capacity of 8.8 tons (8 metric tons) and a boom length of 197 feet (60 metres). The five Potain MCT 88 topless city cranes can lift up to 5.5 t (5 mt) and offer a lift radius of 170 ft (52 m).
