Crane Rental Company Acquires Liebherr LTM 1160-5.2, Increases Hoist Capacity
The 190-ton (180-metric-ton) LTM 1160-5.2 is the first all-terrain crane from Liebherr to join Mexican crane rental company Levantek’s fleet. Levantek selected the LTM 1160-5.2 based on rising customer demand for greater hoist capacity, and the decision to go with Liebherr was reinforced when company owner Ferdinando Paez Trevino visited Liebherr’s production plant in Ehingen, Germany.
“I was very impressed with the quality in the production at Liebherr,” says Paez Trevino. “I have had good experience with ‘Made in Germany’ products as many of my fleet of around 200 trucks come from Germany. That also made the decision in favor of Liebherr an easy one.”
Lift Capacity & Boom Length
“Our investment in a five-axle mobile crane was an important strategic decision for us,” says Paez Trevino. “We decided on a new LTM 1160-5.2 because it meets the requirements of our customers in terms of performance and boom length very well.”
The five-axle mobile crane features a 43- to 203-foot (13- to 62-meter) telescopic boom, as well as folding jibs and lattice jib extensions to increase boom length by as much as 131 feet (40 m). The LTM 1160-5.2’s maximum radius is 256 ft (78 m), and the full 190-t load capacity is available at a radius of up to 10 ft (3 m).
Powerful Technology
The LTM 1160-5.2 is equipped with many of Liebherr’s top features, including both Liebherr’s ECOmode and ECODrive technologies that can reduce fuel consumption by up to 10%. With ECOmode, operators set the required working speed and the onboard LICCON 2 control system calculates the engine speed to match. Liebherr’s VarioBallast system is available to mechanically slew the ballasting cylinders and let operators quickly change between settings for constricted jobsites and one for larger jobsites that allows for higher lifting capacities.
