GOMACO says it has introduced the industry’s first battery-powered slipform curb paver, the zero-emissions CC-1200e. The machine’s lithium-ion batteries can power it for a full work day, according to the manufacturer. GOMACO debuted the paver at the World of Concrete show, which took place January 18 to 20 in Las Vegas.

“We have been working towards an electric curb machine for almost two years now,” says GOMACO Vice President of Engineering/Research and Development, Kevin Klein. “It has been an interesting and exciting challenge for our entire Design Engineering team, but especially demanding for the Controls and Software engineers. We take pride in leading the industry in new product innovations and adding another ‘world’s first’ to our resumé.”

    Operation

The GOMACO CC-1200e runs on a 48-volt, li-ion, DC battery pack. It can recharge in eight to 10 hours, or in as little as two hours with an optional fast charge system. Its electric motor is far quieter than a gas or diesel engine, and it generates less vibration.

The electric curb paver is operated using a radio remote control and the manufacturer’s G+ control system. The remote can command the CC-1200e’s travel, manual three-point grade control, cross auger direction, and vibrator dial, as well as its warning lights and emergency stop function.

The paver can slipform a curb with a radius as small as 24 inches (610 millimeters) with an appropriate mold profile. Its two front wheels have rotary-sensored, slew drive steering. A rear track propels the CC-1200e.

    Dimensions & Capacities

The CC-1200e measures 8.2 feet (2.5 meters) long and 7.8 feet (2.38 meters) wide. It has a 19-cubic-foot (0.54-cubic-meter) hopper that can slide horizontally up to 15 in. (381 mm) to align with ready-mix trucks. The paver can travel at up to 93 feet per minute (28.3 meters per minute) on the jobsite.

The CC-1200e makes it easy to switch out curb molds, according to GOMACO, and can be set up for either right- or left-side paving. A variable-speed auger 12 in. (305 mm) in diameter and 5.5 ft (1.68 m) long can move concrete at up to 43 rpm. A variable-speed electric vibrator starts and stops automatically as the paver travels forward or comes to a stop.
