Doosan, or more specifically Doosan Infracore North America, will head to Las Vegas, Nevada, with some of its heavy equipment for the 2022 ISRI Convention and Exposition being held March 21 to 24. The ISRI show, put on by the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, is the largest event in the recycling industry with heavy participation from the waste sector.

One of the machines Doosan will feature at the show is its DX225MH-5 material handler. It’s equipped with a straight boom, a droop-nose arm, a high cab, and extra guarding.

    The Doosan DX225MH-5

The 162-horsepower (120.8-kilowatt) DX225MH-5 has a 60,848-pound (27,600-kilogram) operating weight, a ground reach of 35.4 feet (10.8 meters), and a loading height of 40 ft (12.2 m). The machine comes with two-way and rotate auxiliary hydraulics to accommodate rotating grapple attachments for maximum handling ability. It can apply 60,757 pounds-foot (82,375 newton-meters) of swing torque to move heavy pieces of scrap. The handler can also be outfitted with a magnet attachment and generator set for iron and steel alloys.

The elevated cab of the DX225MH-5 is fixed in place on a 4-ft (1.2-m) riser to give the operator visibility into scrap containers. Inside the cabin, the noise level only reaches 70 dB(A) during operation.

The material handler has a track width of 2.8 ft (800 mm) and can travel at up to 3.42 mph (5.5 km/h). Its main hydraulic pump has a relief pressure rating of 4,786 psi (32,998 kilopascals). It can flow up to 54.55 gallons (206.5 liters) per minute.

    Power Modes

The DX225MH-5 offers four power modes plus a lifting work mode, which provides an automatic power boost with additional pump torque at low engine RPMs.

“Our customers can activate the material handler’s Smart Power Control feature to enhance machine efficiency while maintaining productivity,” says Aaron Kleingartner, product and dealer marketing manager for Doosan Infracore North America. “This is achieved through variable speed control and pump torque control, automatically adjusting rpm to match the operator’s lifting needs.”

The engine of the DX225MH-5 complies with Tier 4 emissions standards using a high-pressure, common-rail fuel delivery system; cooled exhaust gas recirculation (CEGR); a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC); and selective catalyst reduction (SCR). An electric clutch engages the radiator fan as needed to cool the hydraulic oil and engine coolant.
