Doosan Infracore North America has launched four new mini excavator models it previewed in December 2021. The new -7 Series of compact crawlers is now available at dealerships across the U.S. and Canada. The lineup includes the 3-ton (2.7-metric-ton) DX27Z-7, the 4.4-t (4-mt) DX35Z-7, and 6.1-t (5.5-mt) DX50Z-7 zero-tailswing models, as well as the 6.3-t (5.7-mt) DX55R-7 with a reduced tailswing radius.

“This is a significant milestone for Doosan as we bring an all-new lineup of mini excavators to North America,” says Doosan product and dealer marketing manager Aaron Kleingartner. “A few years ago, we expanded our mini excavator offering and the response from our dealers and customers was very positive. Now we can provide a Doosan-designed family of mini excavators from 2.7 metric tons up to approximately 9.0 mt to match our customers’ needs.”

Doosan says more mini excavator announcements are to come in the following months.

    -7 Series Features

Doosan designed the new -7 Series with more counterweight to allow for offset digging without repositioning, as well as for better lift-over-side capacity. The new excavators feature a more durable structure and standard DoosanCONNECT telematics. The machine monitoring system provides anti-theft features such as mobile device notifications when a machine is started up outside of normal work hours or has left its designated area.

The new excavators have a thumb-ready arm with built-in mounts. An optional long arm is available for certain models. Doosan offers buckets, a quick coupler, and a thumb. Other suitable attachments include approved augers, hydraulic breakers, plate compactors, rippers, and grapples.

“All of our -7 Series mini excavators have a quick-coupler-ready design with auxiliary hydraulics installed to the base of the excavator arm,” Kleingartner says. “Customers won’t need additional accessories to install a quick coupler to the mini excavator. We also offer adjustable auxiliary hydraulic flow which optimizes the response of hydraulic attachments, including thumbs, hydraulic breakers, and augers.”

Optional second auxiliary hydraulics allow the use of tiltrotators and other multifunctional attachments.

The -7 Series’ list of standard features includes enclosed cabs with automatic climate control, windows in the doors for side visibility, a 5.7-inch color LCD monitor, LED work lights, and controls in common with larger Doosan excavators. Options include an open canopy with ROPS, an 8-in (203-mm) display, a heated seat, and space-saving, fold-up foot pedals.

    The New Doosans

At just 6,168 pounds (2,987 kilograms), the diminutive DX27Z-7 represents a new size for Doosan, according to the company. The 24.7-horsepower (18.4-kilowatt) digger is only 60 in. (1,524 mm) wide. It has a rearview camera, 11.8-in. (300-mm)-wide rubber tracks, and a 3.6-foot (1.1-meter) standard arm. The DX27Z-7’s maximum digging depth is 8.7 ft (2.6 m). Its maximum digging reach at ground level is 14.8 ft (4.5 m), and its max loading height is 10.1 ft (3.1 m).

The DX35Z-7 crawler excavator is also a 24.7 HP machine, but it has a heftier 8,807-lb (3,995-kg) operating weight and a large auxiliary hydraulic flow. Its maximum digging depth is 11.3 ft (3.4 m); its max digging reach (ground) is 17.8 ft (5.4 m); and its maximum loading height is 12.2 ft (3.7 m).

The 48.8-HP (36.4-kW) Doosan DX50Z-7, at 12,121-lb (5,498-kg), brings power and productivity to confined spaces. It has the option to use steel tracks instead of rubber. The DX50Z-7 can dig down to 11.4 ft (3.5 m), reach out to 19 ft (5.8 m), and load to a height of 12.5 ft (3.8 m).

Finally, Doosan’s new DX55R-7 is the lone reduced-tailswing model among the otherwise zero-swing quartet. The 12,644-lb (5,740-kg) machine has 48.8 HP (36.4 kW) like the DX50Z-7, but offers more reach. Its maximum depth is 11.9 ft (3.6 m). The extent of its ground-level reach is 20 ft (6.1 m), and it has a loading height of up to 12.9 ft (3.9 m). The DX55R-7 has a standard heated adjustable seat, Bluetooth audio, and quick coupler piping. Among its options is a rotating beacon.
