Liebherr has announced a series of updates to its 8th Generation L 526, L538, and L 546 midsize wheel loaders that it says give them increased productivity over previous generations. The new L 526, for example, provides around 20% more engine power and a 20% higher breakout force than its predecessor. Liebherr complements the performance enhancements with the addition of intelligent assistance systems, including active personnel detection with brake assistant and the fully automatic LIKUFIX quick-coupler system, to further improve functionality and safety.

    Welcome To Generation 8

The new Liebherr L 526, L 538, and L 546 have standard bucket capacities of 2.88, 3.4, and 3.92 cubic yards (2.2, 2.6, and 3.0 cubic meters), respectively. Tipper loads range from 19,246 pounds (8,730 kilograms) on the L 526 to 24,273 lbs (11,010 kg) on the L 546. Liebherr says it has reinforced both the steel construction on the loaders’ front section and the lift arms to handle heavier loads. The machines’ z-bar kinematics have also been beefed up, with larger hydraulic cylinders and more powerful pumps.

    All-Around Performance

Liebherr wheel loaders can use a variety of attachments as needed for work across several industries. To better accommodate such a wide range of usage cases, the manufacturer offers a High Lift option to augment its loaders’ lift arms for increased lifting range, as well as a number of bucket options and fork and grapple attachments. Wheel loaders that wear lots of hats and often need to switch among attachments will benefit from Liebherr’s automated LIKUFIX quick-coupler system, which lets operators switch attachments from the cab with a button press, and without external help.

    Productivity Enhancements

Liebherr says the key to its newest wheel loaders’ increased performance is their new engines, which generate higher maximum torque at a lower nominal speed, which translates to both increased utility and lower fuel consumption. The new loaders also have a more powerful hydrostatic travel drive for greater traction. Liebherr adds a few application-specific improvements, too. For example, when using a fork, operators can activate the wheel loaders’ parallel guidance to safely lift heavy loads across the entire height range. Liebherr also includes a bucket-tilt assist feature that shakes out the bucket to simplify the removal of damp soil or compost.
