“The GMK6400-1’s predecessor, the GMK6400 was hugely successful and broke the mold for what was possible with a six-axle crane in terms of lifting power,” says Manitowoc’s Andreas Cremer. “So, with the new and upgraded model, we’ve kept that power that customers love and added more speed and flexibility.” (Photo courtesy of Manitowoc.)

One of the newest products in Grove's lineup, the GMK6400-1 all-terrain crane will be on display at the Manitowoc booth at bauma 2022, the company recently announced. The 33rd edition of bauma, the world’s largest trade fair for construction equipment, will be held October 24 to 30 at the Messe München in Munich, Germany. The show features thousands of exhibitors and brings hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world. The event will mark the first opportunity for the public to the see the GMK6400-1 in person.

    Breaking The Mold

“The GMK6400-1’s predecessor, the GMK6400, was hugely successful and broke the mold for what was possible with a six-axle crane in terms of lifting power,” says Andreas Cremer, vice president of product management for all-terrain cranes at Manitowoc. “So, with the new and upgraded model, we’ve kept that power that customers love and added more speed and flexibility. Visitors to bauma 2022 will get to see that for themselves and fully appreciate the expanded capabilities of the new crane.”

    Facts & Figures

Like its predecessor, the GMK6400-1 has a maximum capacity of 450 tons (400 metric tons) and a 197-foot (60-meter) boom. New features include an improved hydraulic system with faster flow and the addition of the Crane Control System and MAXbase variable outrigger positioning system. The six-axle all-terrain crane has a new engine that is compliant with both Tier 4 Final and EUROMOT 5 emissions standards. It is equipped with the Megatrak suspension system and a MegaDrive hydrostatic drive to ensure a smooth ride both on- and off-road.

The crane also has the optional self-rigging MegaWingLift, which can be deployed in under 20 minutes to increase lift capacity by as much as 70% on the main boom and up to 400% with the luffing jib, allowing it to work on heavy-duty tasks like bridge construction, wind farms, or tower crane assembly. The GMK6400-1 has a maximum tip height of 448 ft (136 m) with the full complement of jib and can lift up to 70.5 t (64 mt) on its 197-ft (60-m) main boom with MegaWingLift.
