Doosan Infracore North America continues to expand its -7 Series of excavators with four new crawler models in the 15- to 28-ton (14- to 25-metric-ton) class. The new DX140LCR-7, DX225LC-7, DX255LC-7, and DX350LC-7, which Doosan previewed in December 2021, are now available in the U.S. and Canada. The company expects to announce more new excavators in the months ahead.

“Doosan continues to build on the success of its existing excavator platform with more machine features that help our customers improve their productivity,” says Doosan Product Specialist Joel Escalante.

    -7 Series Features

Doosan says its new -7 Series crawlers offer improved fuel economy, productivity, operator comfort, smart controls, and intelligent machine functions. The manufacturer reinforced a number of work group and undercarriage components for strength and durability. The machines offer a 5.5-t (5-mt) lifting capacity, a standard counterweight for heavier attachments, and a high-flow, 16-gallons per minute (60.6-liters per minute) PTO pump for demanding tools.

Doosan redesigned the counterweight for a smaller tailswing radius and shortened the front minimum swing radius on the -7 Series’ reduced-tailswing models to facilitate operation in tight spaces such as at waste transfer stations and on single-lane roads. A new fine swing function mitigates shaking of the load at the start or finish of a slewing movement, yielding benefits such as better material retention and safer pipe laying.

The bucket connection at the end of the arm now has a new, improved, Y-shaped seal. The crawlers’ sealed track chain is self-lubricating, and the -7 Series’ track rollers and idlers now come with oil level check plugs.

    The Operator Experience

Doosan reduced the noise and vibration of its -7 Series crawler excavators, among other new user amenities. “We’ve enhanced the excavator cab with additional comfort features and now offer an all-around view monitor (AVM) for even better operator visibility of the jobsite,” says Escalante. The optional, 360-degree AVM camera system includes a dedicated monitor and offers five perspective views.

The -7 Series’ new cabins use a single wiper that cleans the top as well as the bottom of the windshield. The Doosan Smart Key fob acts as an automobile’s key fob, allowing for remote startup, locking, and unlocking. The cab offers ergonomic joystick controls and four power modes ranging from extra performance to economy and precision control.

A standard feature is an 8-inch Doosan Smart Touch screen for monitoring and control of the excavator, as well as its rearview camera, heating and cooling system, radio, and Bluetooth connectivity. The DoosanCONNECT Telematics system with both satellite and cell coverage comes standard as well.

Options for the -7 Series include a deluxe air suspension seat with heating and cooling and ultrasonic rear object detection sensors.

    The New Doosans

All of the new -7 Series excavators replace their -5 Series predecessors. For example, the new DX140LCR-7 replaces the Doosan DX140LCR-5. The new crawler weighs 33,800 pounds (15,330 kilograms) and has a 115-horsepower (86-kilowatt) engine. Its maximum digging depth is 19.7 feet (6 meters); its max ground reach is 28 ft (8.5 m); and its maximum loading height is 23.25 ft (7.1 m).

The DX225LC-7 offers a significant step upward in weight (52,600 lbs; 23,900 kg) and power (174 HP; 130 kW). It can dig down to 21.6 ft (6.6 m) and reach out to 31.8 ft (9.7 m) at ground level.

    Doosan’s new DX255LC-7 weighs in at 59,300 lbs (26,900 kg). The 189-HP (141-kW) digger has a max depth of 22.3 ft (6.8 m) and a max ground reach of 32.8 ft (10 m).

Finally, the 285-HP (213-kW) DX350LC-7 comes in at 81,790 lbs (37,100 kg). This model can excavate down to 24.7 ft (7.5 m) and has an outreach of 35.9 ft (11 m).

    Coming Soon

Doosan says that its DX225LC-7X, a variation of the DX225LC-7 with a fully electro-hydraulic control system, will become available this year. Its programmable switches, electronic joystick, sensors, and laser catcher enable it to support guidance and control systems including 2D and 3D grading aids. Assistance technologies include load weighing, tipping load monitoring, virtual walls (swing limits), automated bucket and swing angles, and a grade assist mode.
