When the Chilean Navy’s Directorate of Supply issued a public tender for two new telehandlers in 2021, any machine in the open competition had to meet a detailed list of telehandler characteristics. The new telehandlers had to offer a capacity of 13.2 tons (12 metric tons), a minimum lifting height at load of 29.5 feet (9 meters), and a quick-coupling system, among other key specifications. Salfa Machinery submitted two Dieci Hercules 120.10 telehandlers, which were selected based on their ability to surpass the Chilean Navy’s comprehensive specs for functionality and safety.

    Herculean Feats

Dieci’s Hercules 120.10 telehandler has the strength for heavy-duty lifts with a maximum capacity of 26,455 pounds (12,000 kilograms), a pull-out force of 21,806 pounds-force (97 kilonewtons), and a towing force of 24,729 lbf (110 kN). The powerful telehandler also boasts a lift height of 31.2 ft (9.5 m). When handling materials, the Hercules 120.10 can utilize a wide selection of attachments. Dieci includes a mobile fork system and a 3.9-cubic-yard (3-cubic-meter) bucket.

    Safe At Port

Dieci designed its Hercules telehandlers with safety in mind. The sophisticated telehandlers are equipped with an inching pedal to allow the machine to operate at full throttle, while also moving at a slow, controlled speed. Additional features limit travel speed when the boom is raised and stop movement when an overload is detected. These safeguards are critical at port and shipbuilding sites where the telehandlers are often working in confined spaces near crew members.

Salfa professionals are currently training Navy personnel on how to safely operate and get the most out of the telehandlers. “This machine has very specific uses, therefore we aim to provide our customers with the maximum knowledge in order to facilitate not only the operation of the equipment, but also to extend its useful life,” says Salfa Product Manager Ignacio Muñoz.
