New Holland Construction recently announced its entry into the EV market with its first fully electric piece of equipment, the E15X Electric Power mini excavator. The zero-emissions excavator offers high-class power enhancements and variable height and width adjustments. It’s on display now through Saturday at ConExpo 2023 and is expected to be available starting in April.

    Quiet, Emissions-Free Digging

The E15X electric mini excavator is powered by a cobalt-free lithium-ion battery and a 16-kilowatt (21.5-HP) motor, which delivers equivalent power to that of the diesel-powered New Holland E14D. The excavator can run for up to eight hours on a full charge and can recharge in 10 hours using a standard 110-volt outlet or within one hour using fast charge. The emissions-free mini excavator uses bio-hydraulic oil, which extends service intervals, and runs quieter than similar diesel models, making it a fit for indoor jobs and work at sites with noise level restrictions.

The E15X has Eco, Standard, and Power pre-set work modes and pre-set Precision, Normal, Productivity, and Individual control modes that can all be independently adjusted to match the machine to the job. Power management software monitors oil flow and engine speed by recognizing joystick movement and sets the engine speed to lower the pressure on the hydraulics and battery.

    Small & Nimble

The compact E15X has a variable-width undercarriage that can be set as narrow as 31 inches (787 millimeters) while the height can lower to under 59 in. (1,500 mm) by rotating the roll bar, allowing the mini excavator to fit through most standard-sized doors, enabling it to work on tight, indoor construction sites with ease.

“This is New Holland Construction’s first step into EV, a segment that’s going to continue to evolve and grow over the next decade not only for the industry, but for New Holland Construction,” says Tyler Mills, head of New Holland Construction North America. “The E15X Electric Power mini excavator is built to work in a variety of spaces—indoor, outdoor, tight, noise-restrictive. It has a place from indoor construction jobs to landscaping, to utility digging and demolition jobs, and beyond.”
