Kobelco has announced the North American launch of its new 42-ton (38-metric-ton) SK380SRLC-7 crawler excavator. Part of Kobelco’s SR Series, the 84,700-pound (38,400-kilogram) unit has a compact design and a long digging reach.

The short-radius SK380SRLC-7 has a rear swing overhang of only 6.25 feet (1,900 millimeters), and the machine can operate in a single 12-ft (3.7-meter) lane, making it a natural for highway and street work. It is equally at home in site development, landscaping, and underground utilities work.

    Independent Travel

The SK380SRLC-7 can travel at up to 2.8 mph (4.5 km/h). Kobelco’s automatic Independent Travel feature, which has a separate hydraulic pump for the drive, keeps travel speed constant and movements smooth even while swinging and operating the attachment or carrying a load. The machine has an attachment mode for using a hydraulic breaker and other tools.

The excavator has a digging depth rating of 22.9 ft (7 m) and a long maximum digging reach of 35.8 ft (10.9 m). It can use buckets with 0.75 to 1.875 cubic yards (0.57 to 1.43 cubic meters) of capacity. The SK210LC-11 boasts a bucket digging force of up to 46,800 pounds-force (208 kilonewtons) and has a Power Boost feature that delivers approximately 10% more digging power with no time limit. A Heavy Lift mode increases hydraulic pressure for extra lifting strength.

    No DPF

The SK380SRLC-7 generates 90,100 pound force-feet (122.1 kilonewton-meters) of swing torque and has a fast swing speed of 8.4 rpm. Kobelco gave it an automatic Swing Priority system which maintains full power to the swing during combined operations such as backfilling and side digging.

The 265-horsepower (198-kilowatt) Isuzu engine in the SK380SRLC-7 supplies 70,500 lbf (314 kN) of drawbar pulling force. The engine uses a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) and a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) device to meet Tier IV Final emissions standards without the need for a diesel particulate filter (DPF).

    Interior Amenities

Although the SK380SRLC-7 is compact for its class, it boasts a full-sized cab with sound suppression and silicone-sealed viscous mounts to dampen vibration. The heated operator’s seat has an air suspension and is adjustable. The cabin has wide doors and windows all around, plus rear-view, right, and left cameras that feed into a 10-inch color display.

LED lights illuminate the interior of the cab, which is cooled by a highly capable air conditioning system. The SK380SRLC-7 supports Kobelco’s Komexs machine monitoring telematics system. The company backs the new excavator with a 4-year, 4,000-hour standard warranty.
