Vermeer Re-Engineers Its VXT600 Vacuum Excavator With More Debris Capacity, Lighter Weight
Vermeer has entirely redesigned its VXT600 truck-mounted vacuum excavator with an elongated spoils tank and an even weight distribution that allows it to carry more debris. The vehicle’s low nominal empty weight of 40,000 pounds (18,144 kilograms) helps it support a greater load capacity of 12 cubic yards (9.2 cubic meters).
“We designed the new VXT600 from the ground up with the goal of making the lightest 12-cu yd (9.2-cu m) truck on the market," says Vermeer MV Solutions Product Manager T.J. Steele. The quiet-operating Vermeer vacuum system is available on either a Kenworth T880 or a Mack Granite truck chassis.
“We have incorporated many features that contractors appreciate about the popular Vermeer VXT300 vacuum excavator to create the larger and more powerful VXT600,” Steele says. “We believe this second-generation VXT600 is exactly what the industry is looking for in a high-production vacuum excavator. It is an excellent choice for utility contractors who want to increase their potholing productivity.”
2nd-Gen Vermeer VXT600 Specs
The redesigned VXT600 vacuum excavator has an 8-inch (203-millimeter)-diameter dig hose, a 1,200-gallon (4,542-liter) freshwater tank, and a 23-foot (7-meter) boom. It uses a 6,400-cubic feet per minute (181.2-cubic meters per minute) helical tri-lobe Jurop blower capable of a vacuum level of 27 inches of mercury (.91 bar). The system’s water pump can flow 10 gallons per minute (37.9 liters per minute) and has a pressure level of 3,000 pounds per square inch (20,700 kilopascals).
Vermeer designed the VXT600’s dig tube so it can remain attached to the boom dig hose when the latter is stowed along the side of the machine. Another timesaving feature allows the boom to remain stowed while the spoils tank is tilted up to 50 degrees to dump out its contents. An optional tank vibrator is available to make dumping more efficient.
VXT600 Options & Accessories
Vermeer offers the VXT600 on two truck chassis options: a Kenworth T880 truck with a 510-horsepower (380-kilowatt) Paccar MX-13 engine, and a Mack Granite truck with a 505-HP (377-kW) Mack MP8 engine. Both chassis have a 6-speed Allison 4500RDS transmission, two pusher axles, and an 86,000-lb (39,009-kg) gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR).
The VXT600 comes with a 7-in. display and a full-function wireless remote. The latter is available with a belly pack or a handheld unit. A standard handwashing station lets the operator clean up after the job.
Vermeer offers a cold-weather kit that heats the VXT600’s cabinets, water lines, and valves to keep them operational in the winter. Other options include a 180-CFM (5.1-CMM), 110-psi (7.58 bar) air compressor suitable for dry digging and running pneumatic tools; a 20-gpm (75.7-Lpm) water pump that lets workers dig with two wands; and a 420,000-BTU Dynablast water heater.
