Komatsu GD955-7 Motor Grader Brings Greater Precision & Operator Control
The Komatsu GD955-7 motor grader is now available in the North American market with 50% more operating weight (104,323 pounds; 47,320 kilograms) than the model it replaces. The manufacturer says its added heft contributes to best-in-class downforce pressure, resulting in excellent grading performance for creating and maintaining stable, efficient haul roads at quarry and mining sites.
“With significant increases in operating weight, blade downforce pressure, and working travel speeds, this new size class motor grader will be a smart choice for increased efficiency on our customers’ mine sites,” says Joseph Sollitt, Komatsu director of mining support equipment.
Productivity-Enhancing Features
Komatsu designed the GD955-7 with several standout features, including its 6-cylinder, 4-cyle Komatsu SAA6D140E-7 engine rated for an impressive 426 horsepower (318 kilowatts) at 1,900 rpm. The grader also boasts an 18-foot (5.5-meter) moldboard, which increases productivity by as much as 33%. Komatsu offers an optional 20-ft (6.1-m) moldboard, which delivers an even more impressive 46% productivity increase.
Operators can look forward to excellent visibility thanks to the machine’s integrated control console, strategically placed mirrors, and KomVision machine monitoring camera system, which provides a 360-degree bird’s-eye view of the grader.
Reduced Maintenance Downtime
Komatsu says the new circle bearing used for the moldboard is durable, allows for smooth and precise rotation, and eliminates the need for circle play adjustments or replacing wear plates. Combined with the auto-lubrication system, the circle bearing results in an up to 21% reduction in total maintenance time, it says.
The company says the grader’s redesigned front and rear frames help it stand up to bending forces and torsional loads. This contributes to longer service life and reduced life cycle costs for owners.
Easy To Operate & Maneuver
Komatsu says the GD955-7 provides exceptional maneuverability, allowing operators to pull off tight U-turns on standard 100-ton (90.7-metric-ton)-class haul roads without cutting the wheel fully or course-correct. And thanks to a generous 27-degree articulation angle, the GD955-7 can take on narrow haul road work in confined spaces and around obstacles, says Komatsu.
