Hamm has added a vibration crusher (VC) drum to its HC 250 roller compactor to make a machine capable of crushing and compacting stone at the same time, reducing cost, time, and carbon emissions by up to 50% over performing the operations separately. The resulting 26.8-ton (24.3-metric-ton) HC 250i C VC for EU Stage V and EPA Tier 4 Final emissions controls will be joined in autumn 2024 by the HC 250 C VC model for Tier 3 emissions markets.

Hamm’s New VC Tool Holder System

The new Hamm HC 250/250i C VC’s high point load gives it an excellent ability to crush and compact mixed soils, stones such as basalt and granite, and other geological and construction materials, creating a stable substrate in situ without extra material preparation and transport efforts. The manufacturer says the compactor can also pre-crush and loosen stone in surface mining and tunnel projects, reducing the need for milling or leveling rubble in landfill sites.

Hamm designed a new tool holder system for the vibration crusher drum that allows for quick and easy replacement without specialized tools. The new drum is compatible with round-shank stone-cutting tools as well as wear-resistant, carbide-tipped tools with hard facing for use on abrasive or hard stone. Hamm says its H 25i VC and 3625 VC compactors can also be upgraded to the new tool holder system with a simple drum swap.

Hamm HC 250/250i C VC Specifications

The new Hamm HC 250i C VC and upcoming HC 250 C VC have a drum width of 84.3 inches (2,141 millimeters) and a drum diameter of 67.3 in. (1,709 mm). The machines weigh 53,515 pounds (24,274 kilograms) with a cab and come equipped with a 218-horsepower (160-kilowatt) Deutz engine.

The "C" in the HC 250 C VC and HC 250i C VC model names indicate a reinforced drum drive that helps the compactor climb grades of up to 60%. The machine’s no-spin axle, heavy-duty tires, and powerful drive system all pitch in to overcome rocky terrain.

Hamm builds the HC 250i C VC and HC 250 C VC with three points of articulation to improve its off-road steering, safety, and driver comfort. Its driver’s seat has an extended backrest and optional air suspension. Hamm’s Easy Drive operating concept comes standard and provides for simple, intuitive control of the machine, even for less experienced operators.
