Versatile Komatsu PC490HRD-11 Demolition Excavator Makes North American Debut
Komatsu had two demolition excavators on display at the recent National Demolition Association’s annual Demolition San Antonio convention and expo. The new PC490HRD-11 large excavator and a special demolition specification of the PC360LC-11 made their North American debuts at the trade show, which is now in its 50th year.
Meet The Komatsu PC490HRD-11
The 362-horsepower (270-kilowatt) PC490HRD-11 provides outstanding versatility and the promise of achieving better efficiency on demolition jobsites. Operators have access to six working arrangements and will benefit from a boom extension for greater reach.
The excavator uses a proprietary boom change system that employs oversized quick connectors for the hydraulic lines; Komatsu says it minimizes back pressure and heating without restricting oil flow. The system also reduces the risk of equipment damage during reconfiguration thanks to the hydraulic pins Komatsu mounts inside the main boom structure.
An Easily Movable Excavator
Another feature worth noting is the PC490HRD-11’s variable-width undercarriage, which expands for greater stability at work and narrows again for easier trailering when it’s time to transport the machine to another site. Operators will also appreciate the ability to tilt the cab for excellent visibility of their work environment.
PC360LC-11 Specs
The demolition version of the PC360LC-11 utilizes a 6-cylinder Komatsu SAA6D114E-6 engine rated for 257 net HP (192 kW). Komatsu says the machine will enter the North American market within a year.
The PC360LC-11’s standard specification allows for easy transport and high-productivity earthmoving. The excavator has a 2.56-cubic-yard (1.95-cubic-meter) bucket capacity and components such as a closed-center load-sensing hydraulic system that can help lower fuel consumption, says Komatsu.
