New 5.5-Ton Case CX50D Mini Excavator Can Handle Pools & Other Larger Landscaping Jobs
Case Construction Equipment recently announced the launch of its new CX50D, an upsized, 5.5-ton (5-metric-ton) class mini excavator with zero-tailswing overhang with its standard counterweight. Part of the Case D-Series line of compact diggers, the CX50D delivers the lifting capacity, reach, and digging depth landscapers need to do various jobs, including excavating pools and ponds.
“Landscapers are increasingly turning to mini excavators as a labor-saving solution because of their power and versatility,” says Case Product Manager – Excavators, Diego Butzke. “With our latest machine, they’ll be able to scale up productivity even more to take on bigger jobs more efficiently.”
Case CX50D Capabilities
The standard Case CX50D has an operating weight of 10,912 pounds (4,950 kilograms) and a standard swing boom. Its compact design allows it to work close to buildings and other structures. Its diesel engine is a 58.7-horsepower (43.7-kilowatt) Perkins 4-cylinder with Tier 4 Final emissions reduction.
The standard arm of the CX50D is 4.92 feet (1.5 meters) long, yielding a maximum dig depth of 10.92 ft (3.33 m) and a max dig radius of 18.5 ft (5.63 m). An optional long arm adds 10 in. (0.25 m) to the excavator’s reach.
The CX50D is 6.25 ft (1.9 m) wide at the outer edges of its rubber tracks, which have a ground pressure rating of 4.0 pounds per square inch (0.28 kilograms-force per square centimeter). The mini excavator can move up to 2.8 mph (4.5 km/h) and has a 30% gradeability rating. Its hydrostatic drive automatically downshifts over slopes and rough terrain to increase torque.
Operator Station Features & Options
The Case CX50D is available with an enclosed cab or a 4-post canopy with protection systems against rollovers and falling objects (ROPS/FOPS). The automotive-style cab includes heat and A/C with automatic climate control. There’s a 5-way adjustable mechanical suspension seat (air suspension is optional), Bluetooth radio, and a customizable 7-in. LCD screen for machine data, performance data, and a view from the optional rear camera.
Other options include a third 2-way auxiliary hydraulics circuit for attachments such as tilt rotators and grapples, as well as a dedicated auxiliary circuit for a mulching head and other advanced attachments. There’s an optional Object Handling Kit with check valves on the boom and arm for material-handling applications. An available 6-way blade can assist with backfilling or light grading duties.
Efficiency For Demanding Tasks
All in all, Case says, the CX50D’s flexibility and construction-level power allow landscaping crews to do more types of tasks under more challenging work site conditions.
“Staying competitive in today’s landscaping industry means equipping teams with the power and versatility they need to take on bigger jobs more efficiently,” says Terry Dolan, vice president – North America, Case CE. “At Case, we’re committed to building a better future for landscaping companies with practical innovation that unlocks new levels of productivity and new opportunities for their business.”
