Volvo CE Debuts New L120 Electric Wheel Loader
Volvo Construction Equipment recently expanded its lineup of midsize electric machines with the release of the L120 Electric wheel loader, the L90 Electric wheel loader, and the EWR150 Electric wheeled excavator. Volvo debuted the electric trio at Volvo Days 2024 and says they offer lower operating costs and the ability to work in environments with strict noise and emissions limitations.
Volvo L120 Electric: Up To Nine Hours Of Power
Volvo says the new L120 Electric wheel loader is ideal for various applications, from waste management and recycling to infrastructure maintenance, agriculture, and forestry work. It has a 6-metric-ton (6.6-U.S.-ton) lifting capacity and a runtime of five to nine hours, depending on the job. The L120 Electric will be available in select markets in Europe, India, Asia, Latin America, and North America in late 2024.
Equal To Diesel Without The Exhaust
The 20-mt (22-U.S.-t) L120 Electric matches its diesel equivalent in power but has the added benefit of lower noise and zero exhaust emissions.
- 6.6-t lifting capacity
- Bucket capacity of 3.92 to 12.43 yards³ (3 to 9.5 meters³)
- 230 kilowatts rated power
- 282-kilowatt-hour battery capacity
- Regenerative braking
- Up to 9 hours of runtime
- Charges in under 2 hours on 180-kW DC charger
Volvo L120 Electric Benefits
The near-silent emission-free operation of the L120 Electric enables the wheel loader to operate in areas that its diesel counterpart cannot, such as indoor projects or in urban areas with noise and pollution ordinances. With a 6.6-t lifting capacity, the L120 Electric can handle demanding tasks across an array of industries. The electric wheel loader can perform a full day’s work on a single charge and can recharge from 10 to 100% in one hour and 40 minutes with a 180-kW DC fast charger or overnight on a 40-kW DC portable charger.
Without an internal combustion engine and its parts and service requirements, the L120 Electric requires 30% less maintenance than a diesel wheel loader, which means more uptime and greater productivity.
