New Komatsu PC220LC-12 & PC220LCi-12 Excavators Deliver More Power, Comfort & Smart Tech
Komatsu has introduced the PC220LC-12 and PC220LCi-12, new midsize excavators in the 21- to 24-ton (19- to 22-metric-ton) class. Designed for residential and commercial land-clearing, earthwork, and advanced GPS design-driven site development, both machines provide significant improvements in power, performance, and fuel efficiency over the previous PC210LC-11.
The PC220LCi-12 ups the ante by including Komatsu’s latest Intelligent Machine Control (IMC) 3.0, technology that provides automated features like auto-swing and auto-return to boost operator productivity. IMC 3.0 also features factory-integrated 3D boundary control technology, which Komatsu says is a construction industry first. The technology allows for setting a work restriction surface for height, depth, front, back, and side boundaries that will automatically stop the excavator should it move to go beyond them.
Komatsu’s Advanced Working Environment
Looking for an excavator you can put to the test day in and day out? The PC220LC-12 and PC220LCi-12 fill the bill, says Peter Robson, Komatsu senior director of product and service.
“We’ve built these excavators for the ones who need to get it done on every shift,” Robson says. “That was the thinking behind the design of these next-generation machines—to empower operators to perform at their very best, which translates into greater productivity on the jobsite. With the most advanced working environment we’ve ever created, these are excavators your operators will love to run.”
Shared Features That Pack A Punch
Both excavators are powered by a 4-cylinder turbocharged Komatsu SAA4D107E-5 engine rated for 173 gross horsepower (129 kilowatts) at 2,000 rpm. Thanks to the engine and the excavators’ new electro-hydraulic system, the company says the PC220LC-12 and PC220LCi-12 offer up to 20% increased fuel efficiency. Komatsu also says the diggers provide up to 20% lower maintenance costs.
Both machines have a bucket capacity from 0.65 to 1.85 yards3 (0.5 to 1.4 meters3). Compared to the PC210LC-11, the excavators provide an up to 7% increase in lift capacity and an up to 8% improvement in bucket digging force. Their cabs are 28% larger, provide 30% more legroom, and improve visibility by 50%.
Inside the cab, operators will find an upgraded, adjustable air-suspension multifunction seat, an 8-inch display, and a joystick with customizable controls. A new operator ID system allows for storing personalized settings for up to 50 user profiles.
