Peterbilt Announces Standardization Of Disc Brakes For Model 579 Trucks
One of the biggest challenges of driving a semi-truck is bringing it to a stop, especially when trying to avoid a collision. These vehicles are often carrying tens of thousands of pounds in weight, which makes sudden breaking a dangerous proposition. In order to offset some of that risk and just make its trucks safer in general, Peterbilt recently announced the standardization of disc brakes on its Peterbilt Model 579 trucks with addition of rear disc brakes. Five years ago, the company added front disc brakes to this model, but now they’ve worked to decrease stopping distance by adding rear ones as well.
More Reliable
These brakes are, more specifically, air disc brakes and are designed for performance and reliability. They offer improved force distribution, which helps to even out the wear and tear on the brake pads. The ultimate goal is to make sure that all of the separate disc brakes are working together in harmony to bring the vehicle to the stop. This also helps with maintenance-related issues because you know that when one brake pad is ready to be replaced, it’s probably time to replace all of the other ones as well.
Other Safety Improvements
Aside from improving the overall braking system on the Peterbilt Model 579, the company has also been focusing on safety across the board. One major example is that of the headlamps and fog lamps, which Peterbilt engineers tested out by traveling across 10 countries over an extended period of time. These lights offer better visibility while driving at night and they also cover more of the road to shore up any extra blind spots that pop up during low-light periods. Plus, it’ll save your drivers undue eyestrain that can happen from trying to stay vigilant while out on the road at night.
