Western Star Puts Spotlight On Vocational Trucks At 2018 World of Concrete
Western Star Trucks is making a big showing at this year’s 2018 World of Concrete event in Las Vegas by putting its custom-built vocational trucks on display and offering a contest at the same time. The company is emphasizing its unique and highly traditional approach to truck manufacturing because all of their trucks are hand-built to this day and can be specially designed to exact customer specifications. These trucks combine performance and comfort in equal measure to ensure the best possible operating experience regardless of the application.
At The Show
Western Star is showing six trucks in all at its World of Concrete display. There are two 4700SF Con-tech bridge mixer trucks, which are both outfitted with Detroit DD13 engines and Allison 4700 Rugged Duty Series (RDS) transmissions. There’s a 4700SB Holcombe volumetric mixer that comes with the same engine as the 4700F, but has the 4000 version of the Allison RDS transmission. There’s a 4700SF Stone Slinger with the same engine and the 4500 version of the RDS transmission. And then you’ll also find a 4800SB tandem steer truck with a knuckleboom crane as well as a 6900 XD40 Ground Force dump truck that comes with a Detroit DD16 engine and an Allison 4800 Off-Road Series transmission.
Fun & Games
In addition to the serious business of showing off custom-built trucks, Western Star is also having a bit of fun with World of Concrete attendees with its eighth annual “Western Star Trucks Get Tough Challenge.” This contest involves a group of competitors driving a Western Star truck around a course and then being scored on their performances at the end based on a 50-point scale. The grand prize for the event is a 65-inch (1,651-millimeter) LED 4K television, but there will other prizes for runner-ups as well as Western Star swag for anyone that enters the competition.
