It’s always exciting when advanced features become standard for a given truck model, and that’s exactly what’s happening for the Freightliner Cascadia line with Meritor EX+ L air disc brakes and the Detroit Assurance 4.0 collision mitigation system. Daimler Trucks North America made the announcement at the 2018 TMC Annual Meeting that took place March 5-8 in Atlanta, Georgia. Both of these technologies help make Freightliner Cascadia trucks even safer to drive and will go a long way in preventing potential accidents out on the road.

    Detroit Assurance 4.0

Detroit Assurance 4.0 is a suite of safety-related technologies that work together to keep truck operators, pedestrians, and other drivers safe. This includes systems like Adaptive Cruise Control, which is designed to keep a safe distance between vehicles on the road, and Active Brake Assist, which can actually partially or entirely brake for the driver when necessary to prevent a potential accident. This is all part of the overall Detroit Assurance 4.0 collision mitigation system, which takes advantage of radar to detect distances and make decisions on-the-fly. If you want a little extra protection on top of standard features, you can also add other optional solutions including Lane Departure Warning and Side Object Detection.

Meritor EX+ L Air Disc Brakes

Beginning in the spring of 2018, all new Freightliner Cascadia trucks will come with Meritor EX+ L air disc brakes standard. The brakes themselves are designed to be super-lightweight to ensure they don’t negatively impact other aspects of the truck while still maintaining a high level of performance. They are designed with twin pistons that are gear-synchronized in an effort to encourage uniform wear on the pads, which improves predictive maintenance and maintenance intervals in general. In addition to lasting longer and working efficiently, Meritor’s EX+ L air disc brakes are also designed to shorten the truck’s stopping distance, so they work perfectly with the Detroit Assurance 4.0 suite to react to potentially dangerous driving situations.
