Freightliner Introduces New Cascadia CNG Truck Models
Freightliner is debuting two new Freightliner Cascadia compressed natural gas (CNG) models at this year’s Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo Conference, which runs April 30 through May 3 at the Long Beach Convention Center in southern California. The ACT Expo features over 125 industry speakers, more than 250 sponsors and exhibitors, and will have over 75 advanced vehicles on the floor. You’ll find Freightliner’s new Cascadia models on display at the Daimler Trucks North America booth 947 throughout the event.
UPS Partnership
Freightliner partnered with United Parcel Service for one of the Cascadia CNG models on display. The truck is a day cab configuration that sports a Cummins Westport ISX12N Near Zero (NZ) NOx natural gas engine as well as an Eaton Fuller Advantage Series automated manual transmission. In addition to the engine and transmission, the truck exterior’s aerodynamic design also contribute significantly to fuel efficiency gains. Building a truck that was powerful but also efficient and environmentally friendly was important to both Freightliner and UPS.
“By partnering with companies like UPS to pilot innovations such as the new Cascadia CNG truck, we can continuously evaluate and enhance our products,” said Kelly Gedert, director of product marketing, Freightliner Trucks and Detroit Components, in a news release. “Our proven experience in developing alternative fuel technologies for applications ranging from long hauls to vocational jobs demonstrates our commitment to environmentally sustainable solutions that increase productivity and efficiency for our customers.”
Other Vehicles On Display
Freightliner’s 2018 ACT Expo Conference booth is also providing the opportunity to show off the Freightliner M2 112 with a Cummins Westport L9N Near Zero NOx natural gas engine and TYMCO sweeper, a Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation propane-autogas S2G chassis, and a Thomas Built Buses (TBB) Saf-T-Liner C2 all-electric school bus, which is the first of its kind from TBB. All of these vehicles are an important part of Daimler’s “Shaping Future Transportation” philosophy, which started in 2007 as a way to promote alternative fuel usage, low carbon emissions, and more.
