Daimler Trucks North America Brings Freightliner & Thomas Built Buses To IAA 2018
Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) has a Freightliner EconicSD, Freightliner 114SD, and Thomas Built Buses Saf-T-Liner C2 Jouley all-electric school bus on display alongside other Daimler vehicles at IAA Commercial Vehicles 2018, which runs September 20-27 in Hanover, Germany. “At DTNA, our local market solutions often begin with a collaborative effort and shared expertise from our global partners,” says Kary Schaefer, general manager of marketing and strategy for Freightliner and Detroit. “The IAA provides DTNA with the perfect opportunity to share a few of our recent innovations from these collective endeavors for the first time outside of the North American market.”
Freightliner
The design of the Freightliner EconicSD, based on the Mercedes-Benz Econic, is a refuse truck with low-entry for easier access and a panoramic windshield that offers improved visibility from the cab. The EconicSD also features a Detroit DD8 engine that produces 350 horsepower and 1,050 pounds-food (1,423.6 newton-meters) of torque. It takes full advantage of Detroit Assurance, which includes features like adaptive cruise control, active brake assist, and lane departure warning.
Freightliner’s 114SD is designed for severe-duty applications and is easy to configure as a crane truck, concrete mixer, dump truck, sewer vacuum truck, fire truck, snowplow, and more. With the 114SD, you have the choice of a day cab, extended cab, or crew cab. Detroit DD8 and DD13 and Cummins engines, including the L9, L9N, and ISX12N, are among the engine options. Depending on your choice of engine, the 114SD can produce up to 505 horsepower and 1,850 pounds-foot (2,508.3 newton-meters) of torque.
Thomas Built Buses
The Saf-T-Liner C2 Jouley from Thomas Built Buses is an all-electric, zero-emissions school bus that is not only the brand’s first production model from its new electric line of vehicles, but also an important stepping stone in DTNA’s dedication to electric vehicles. The bus features a PowerDrive 700ev powertrain built by Efficiency Drivetrains, Inc. It produces between 100 kilowatt-hours and 160 kilowatt-hours of power, which gives it a maximum operating range of 120 miles (193 kilometers). You can fully charge the Jouley in about eight hours, or get a smaller percentage charge in four to six hours. The bus can hold up to 81 passengers.
