Kenworth Set To Launch New W990 Long-Hood Conventional Truck
Kenworth revealed its new W990 long-hood conventional truck at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in September. The Kenworth W990 sports a PACCAR MX-13 engine that produces up to 510 horsepower and 1,850 pounds-foot (2,508 newton-meters) of torque and has a 12-speed PACCAR automated transmission, and PACCAR 40K tandem rear axles.
The truck is available in several configurations, including as a day cab, 40-inch flat-top sleeper, 52-inch mid-roof sleeper, and 76-inch mid-roof sleeper. The truck lives up to its “long-hood” descriptor with a length of 131.5 inches measured from the bumper to the rear of the cab, which is 1.5 inches more than Kenworth’s W900L model.
“The new Kenworth W990 is a reflection of the Kenworth brand, ‘The World’s Best,’ which represents the quality, engineering excellence, and both customer and driver focus that goes into every Kenworth we build,” says Mike Dozier, general manager at Kenworth and vice president at PACCAR. “We are passionate about our products, our customers that depend on them, and the drivers that operate them. We know that there are many customers and drivers out there who share our passion. The Kenworth W990 represents the pride, image and freedom of trucking, and captures the spirit of what trucking is all about.”
Standard & Special Features
Kenworth designed the W990 with driver comfort and productivity in mind. It features ample storage space for clothes and other items, including an extra spot underneath the bottom bunk. It also has an 1,800-watt converter and four 120-outlets for powering and charging devices. In the driver’s seat, you’ll find the 7-inch NAV+HD in-dash display, which is where you can get valuable information about your truck, use the built-in navigation, and much more. The W990 comes standard with Kenworth TruckTech+ remote diagnostics.
The Limited Edition package adds a midnight black color scheme with “Ravenwood” trim accents on the doors and dash. The black leather and suede seats and leather-wrapped steering wheel all feature a special Royal Blue stitching. Another option, the W990 Driver’s Studio package adds a passenger seat with 180 degrees of swivel, a two-seater rotating table, space for a microwave, and a “drawer-style refrigerator,” according to Kenworth. Other special features include a TV mount that can support a 28-inch flat screen; optional pre-wired satellite TV from EpicVue; and an audio package featuring a 10-inch subwoofer, 320-watt amp, and eight speakers.
See It In Action
Along with the reveal of the W990, Kenworth released a new video (which you can find on Kenworth’s official YouTube channel) of the truck running through Monument Valley in Utah as well as in Northern Arizona.
