Kenworth Puts New Electronics Systems In Three Models
Kenworth is updating the vehicle electronics systems in its T680, T880, and W990 models equipped with PACCAR MX-11 or MX-13 engines and giving them a number of new features. The new systems will not only make it easier for Kenworth to make vehicle updates down the line, but will also make servicing the vehicles simpler as well, with a streamlined wiring concept, more feedback from the system itself, and support for DAVIE4 diagnostic tools. Kenworth says it has also made it easier to connect body controls and telematics systems with “an industry-standard interface.”
Vocational Versatility
Kenworth took this opportunity to add a new electronic control unit to these vehicles, which it plans to use to improve existing performance as well as add new functionality in the future, including driver assistance solutions and advanced powertrains. Vocational vehicles in particular will benefit from these updates thanks to enhanced power take-off (PTO) features and more.
Further Options
“With our new electronic architecture, the customer will get additional PACCAR MX engine PTO functionality, including further options for locating body controls, increased engine speed set-point flexibility, smart and programmable interlocks with other vehicle operation parameters, and enhanced driver feedback on the instrument panel’s 5-inch digital display and on the switches themselves,” says Patrick Dean, chief engineer at Kenworth. “For example, the PTO engagement switch will only illuminate if all the necessary interlocks are satisfied. If those interlocks are not satisfied, the central dash display will also tell the driver why.”
