Kenworth Reveals Twin Steer Option For T880S Trucks
Kenworth now offers a twin steer option for the T880S. It has a BBC (bumper to back of cab) length of 114 inches (2.9 meters), a 61-inch (1.5-meter) axle spread, and comes in a set-forward front axle configuration. “Kenworth continues to expand the excellent diversity of the T880 platform. The T880S Twin Steer is the next step in that evolution,” says Kurt Swihart, marketing director at Kenworth. “We strive to enhance productivity for our customers whenever we can. Kenworth has a long history of building factory twin steers, including the 72-inch [1.8-meter] axle spread available on our set-back axle T800 and C500 models.”
Expanded Applications
As Kenworth points out in a press release, the T880S Twin Steer can handle 1,500 pounds [680 kilograms] or more of additional payload compared to a non-set-back axle twin steer, which opens it up to more applications, such as serving as a concrete pump truck, crane truck, or ready-mix truck. In Western Canada, notably in the Alberta and British Columbia provinces, the new Kenworth T880S Twin Steer now meets ready-mix, tandem axle requirements right out of the factory.
Other Specs
The Kenworth T880S comes with either a PACCAR MX-11 engine or a PACCAR MX-13 engine, which can produce up to 510 horsepower and 1,850 pounds foot (2,508.3 newton-meters) of torque. The T880S Twin Steer specifically has front axle weight ratings of 40,000 pounds (18,144 kilograms). You have the option for an Allison transmission if you opt for PACCAR wide or standard track front axles as well.
