Cummins X12 Engine Now Available For Freightliner 114SD Trucks
The Freightliner 114SD now has an option for a Cummins X12 engine, which offers up to 500 horsepower and 1,700 pounds-foot (2,305 newton meters) of torque. Freightliner says the engine, which weighs in at 2,050 pounds (930 kilograms), “is up to 600 pounds lighter than other medium-bore engines in the 10- to 13-liter category.” For that reason, the Cummins X12 is well suited for vocational configurations where cutting weight can lead to more room for optional features or extra payload capacity, such as dump trucks, mixer trucks, and others.
“We are dedicated to providing vocational customers with a wide range of powertrain options to meet the specific needs of their businesses,” says Kelly Gedert, director of product marketing for Freightliner Trucks and Detroit Components. “By adding the Cummins X12 to our engine portfolio, we give the already versatile 114SD yet another option, showing our commitment to providing customers a choice.”
More On The 114SD
The Freightliner 114SD is a Class 7/8 truck with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 92,000 pounds (41,730 kilograms). In addition to the newly available Cummins X12, you also have a choice of Detroit DD13 and DD8 engines or Cummins L9, L9N, and ISX12N engines. The Cummins X12 engine will officially be available for the Freightliner 114SD starting in the middle of 2019. However, if you’d like to see that configuration in person sooner, it will be on display at World of Concrete 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada, from January 22 to 25.
