Kenworth recently announced that eager customers can order the W990 long-hood conventional truck starting now. The newest Kenworth will officially do into production in January 2019 in Chillicothe, Ohio; it builds on the legacy of the larger W900 series, which has been running strong since 1961. To complement the announcement, there is also a video showing off the W990’s standout exterior design and Limited Edition interior available on the company’s YouTube channel. “The Kenworth W990’s outstanding performance, lifestyle amenities, and classical styling truly makes it The Driver’s Truck,” says Kurt Swihart, marketing director for Kenworth.

    Power & Performance

A 12.9-liter PACCAR MX-13 engine powers the Kenworth W990 and offers between 405 and 510 horsepower and up to 1,850 pounds-foot (2,508 newton meters) of torque. The PACCAR transmission features 12 forward and two reverse gears and supports a maximum operating weight of 110,000 pounds (49,895 kilograms). It also comes standard with PACCAR axles that support a gross combined weight of 80,000 pounds (36,287.4 kilograms) and have a gross axle weight rating of 40,000 pounds (18,143.7 kilograms) in a PACCAR 40K tandem rear axle configuration.

It is available as a day cab, 40-inch flat top sleeper, 52-inch mid-roof Aerodyne sleeper, and 76-inch mid-roof Aerodyne sleeper. The Limited Edition interior option features black leather throughout with royal blue diamond stitching and Ravenwood accents; it’s available in the day cab and 76-inch sleeper cab configurations.
