Strick Trailers, a leading manufacturer of customized dry vans and standard models spanning 99 to 101 inches (251.5 to 256.5 centimeters) wide in open top, drop, and pup configurations, recently released what it claims is the trucking industry’s first FRC, or fiberglass-reinforced composite, dry van trailer. The Monroe, Indiana,-based manufacturer debuted the FRC earlier in March at the American Trucking Associations (ATA) Technology and Maintenance Council (TMC) Annual Meeting & Transportation Technology Exhibition held in Atlanta, Georgia.

    An “Optimal Combination”

Noting that the FRC provides an “optimal combination of light weight, durability, longevity, and low-cost maintenance,” Strick showcased a 53-foot (16.2-meter) FRC lightweight beverage line-haul van designed for regional delivery at the event. It also showed off a 40-foot (12.2-meter) beverage van designed for local delivery, featuring an overhead door with lift gate, custom E-track system, insulation package, and Thermo King heater unit.

In a video promoting the FRC, Strick details the construction process used to create full-length FRC sidewall panels, which are pultruded with a moisture-resistant, 100% recyclable PET (polyethylene terephthalate) core providing various benefits. Justin Bell, Strick Engineering vice president, says the construction process guarantees longevity because the panels won’t delaminate and the “hydrophobic characteristic prevents ‘wicking,’ ensuring zero water intrusion or corrosion.” The combination, he says, is one “no other trailer in the market today delivers.”

    Additional Features

Strick is making the FRC available in any combination from 28-foot (8.53-meter) pups to 60-foot (18.29-meter) line-haul vans. Optional interior features include E-track, assorted cargo-control systems, and an enhanced insulation package that offers greater climate control abilities for special delivery requirements.
